Dr. Kevin Badii
Dear Patients and Friends of OC Smile,
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself to you! I am an Orange County native, and after graduating from El Dorado High School, I attended the University of Hawaii on a full football scholarship. Due to injury, I received my undergraduate degree, in Biology, from California State University at Stanislaus. While at CSUS, I served as the team captains for both the Men’s soccer and Men’s track teams. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from USC School of Dentistry, where I graduated with honors and became a lifetime member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the esteemed National Dental Honor Society. I received my Specialty Orthodontic Certificate and Masters of Dental Science (MDS) Degrees from the University of Connecticut. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, an extraordinary accomplishment achieved by a very small percentage of orthodontists.
My wife, Dr. Bonnie, and I have 3 beautiful children. We’re “OC Locals” and enjoy all the awesome amenities the area has to offer. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, being active outdoors, and reading. I find importance in demonstrating solid values and morals, and I have always pursued excellence in my personal and professional life. I look forward to working with you to help create your beautiful, long-lasting, smile.

Dr. Mike Hyneman
Dr. Mike Hyneman grew up locally in Fullerton, attending Laguna Road School the year it opened. He graduated from Sunny Hills High School before receiving a B.S. degree in Biology from Stanford University. After receiving a DMD degree from Washington University in St Louis, he moved back west to Arizona, where he practiced general and cosmetic dentistry 32 years before selling his offices and returning home to Fullerton in 2018.
Dr. Hyneman is married to his wife Roberta, a dental hygienist, and has two grown children. His daughter, Rachel, has a PhD in particle physics, and is completing a post-doctorate degree at Stanford’s Linear Accelerator Center. His son, Daniel, has earned both DDS and MD degrees, and is in his fourth year of an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at LSU Medical Center.
Dr. Hyneman and his wife enjoy home renovation in their spare time, as well as downhill skiing in Durango, Colorado, where they have a small second home. Additionally, he enjoys building experimental aircraft and has completed two projects.
Dr. Hyneman is passionate about what he does, striving to provide excellent care to all. He truly treats his patients like family!
Dr. Robert N. Tom
Dr. Robert N. Tom is a highly experienced dentist with over 33 years of dedicated service in California.
Following his undergraduate studies as a biology major at Loma Linda University, he continued his education there, and graduated from Loma Linda School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Dr. Tom’s enthusiasm for personal and professional growth extends beyond Loma Linda University to all the patients at OC Smile Dental & Orthodontics.
Dr. Tom fosters a warm, family-oriented environment. Driven by his passion for dentistry, his primary goal is to create long-lasting, beautiful smiles, for all of OC Smile’s patients. With his expertise and commitment to staying updated with the latest advancements in dental and oral healthcare, Dr. Tom is a trusted name in the dental community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Tom enjoys a balanced life filled with diverse interests. You might find him on the pickleball court, attending rock and jazz concerts, or pursuing new skills when he’s not creating beautiful and healthy smiles.
As a proud father of four grown children, he understands the importance of open communication and empathetic care. Dr. Tom has a genuine passion for creating beautiful smiles. He’s committed to providing optimal oral healthcare and making his patients at OC Smile Dental & Orthodontics feel valued and understood.
Dr. Peter Kim
Dr. Peter Kim grew up in Kansas City and played basketball all the way through high school. While in KC, in addition to hoops, he enjoyed all the wonderful amenities of the Mid-West, including KC BBQ. After high
school, Dr. Kim went on to earn his BA in Biology at the University of Kansas and his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Kim was the lead dentist of a large practice in Northern California for 14 years, before moving to southern California to join the OC Smile Dental & Orthodontics team in 2021. Dr. Kim has advanced training in orthodontics, endodontics, and cosmetic dentistry.
He has been an active member of national, state and local dental societies, study clubs, and continuing education programs. He is a firm believer in judgement free dentistry, and that a little empathy along with the proper experience and skillsets, help create the best possible results for all our patients.
He and his wife, Christine, welcomed their first child, Elijah, in November 2021. Dr. Kim is an extremely proud husband, father, and dentist. He enjoys staying physically active in his downtime, whether hiking,
working out, or reinvigorating his basketball skills. Dr. Kim is proud to be your dentist and oral healthcare provider!
Dr. Frank Mehrdad
Dr. Frank Mehrdad, aka “Dr. Frank”, graduated from Arizona State University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. He then moved to Maryland, where he completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Degree from The University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1999. Shortly after, Dr. Frank moved to Sunny Southern California in 2000, which is where he’s been practicing dentistry ever since.
Among many things, Dr. Frank prides himself on providing the best cosmetic, general, and restorative dental procedures possible. He has kept up with the latest technology in dental field by attending countless continuing educational courses.
In his free time, Dr. Frank enjoys spending time with his two boys (age 7 and 12) and his wife of 17 years.
Dr. Alisha Hewko
Dr. Alisha Hewko was born and raised in North Orange County. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco.
Dr. Hewko prides herself on delivering quality dental care with compassion and respect to all of her patients. Her primary areas of focus are general dentistry inclusive of cosmetics, root canals, extractions, bone grafts, cosmetic repairs, crowns, dentures, teeth whitening, and more. Dr. Hewko has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry in Southern California since 2015. She is excited to be a part of the OC Smile team and the communities we serve.
Dr Hewko enjoys relaxing outdoors and spending time with her two year old son, Liam and her husband Josh.
Dr. Austin Burnett
Dr. Austin Burnett is a Southern California native. He was born in Corona and lived in Yorba Linda most of his life. Upon graduation from Troy High School in Fullerton, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology with minors in Chemistry and Japanese from BYU in Utah. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from UNLV School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated top of his class and Magna cum laude. Dr. Burnett completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty training at Cook County Hospital, a level I trauma center in Chicago (see ER the tv show). He was awarded the Resident of the Year award twice while in residency, served as an adjunct faculty member for the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine, and presented scholarly works at the Chicago Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons biannual meeting.
Dr. Burnett has completed certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support), and BLS (Basic Life Support). He has active hospital privileges at Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. Dr. Burnett is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CALAOMS), the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA), the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), the American Dental Association (ADA), the California Dental Association (CDA), and the Orange County Dental Society (OCDS).
Dr. Burnett was married to his wife Elise in Redlands, CA. They currently have three children: Caden (7), Vance (5), and Macey Jane (1). He is an Eagle Scout, black belt in Tae Kwon Do, avid guitarist, lifelong soccer player, and die-hard Lakers fan!
Dr. Jeremy Owyoung
Dr. Jeremy Owyoung graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Management Science. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry (USC). Upon the completion of dental school, Dr. Owyoung was trained at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to achieve his speciality certificate in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry and a Master of Science degree in Biomaterials/Oral Biology. He has lectured and published on an array of topics including Chronic Disease Prevention and Oral Health Promotion, Dental Biomaterials, and Oral Implantology. Dr. Owyoung is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, A Recognized Specialty of the American Dental Association.
When he’s not fixing smiles, Dr. Owyoung enjoys mountain biking, music, and digital photography. He can also be found watching NBA basketball, and NFL/USC football.
